The Marathon water heater started as a simple idea nearly 20 years ago:

Based on the success of plastic brine tanks used for over 30 years in the water softening industry, the molded polybutylene Marathon tank was born.
Generally speaking, the electric powered Marathon is less expensive to operate than propane in nearly all markets and due to the volatile nature of natural gas prices, Marathon is now the least cost alternative compared to natural gas in several markets. In addition to cost effective efficiency, the Marathon offers numerous advantages:

- The filament wound fiberglass outer tank is designed to be more flexible and withstand more pressure than conventional tanks
- Our unique high temperature dip tube is offset from the concave bottom, creating a "whirlpool effect" which helps prevent sediment build-up
- Every tank includes 4' of pipe insulation for even greater savings.
